One of the reasons I love doing in-home sessions with my families is because they allow me the time and space to work at your baby’s pace. I’m not watching the clock and we take the time to capture photos.
Remember – capturing the precious memories of your little love’s earliest days is meant to be a beautiful and stress-free experience, I’ll guide you with prompts and conversation to keep things light, candid and real. To help you feel prepped and ready, here’s a short checklist for the day of your session:
What should I put on the bed?
We often spend time on the bed during newborn sessions – either in the master bedroom or nurseryI recommend plain-coloured bedding in soft, neutral or earthy tones.
We’ll need the heater on!
For those sleepy baby shots , the room needs to be toasty warm. Aim for a temperature that feels almost too warm for the adults – think comfy in a summer dress, even in winter.
Should I adjust feed or nap times?
No need to change your usual routine. These sessions are all about real, beautiful, everyday moments – whether that’s feeding, napping, or snuggling. That said, if baby is likely to be asleep when I arrive, dressing them in your chosen outfit beforehand can help us start smoothly without waking them.
Let the rooms be tidy, but lived-in.As a natural light photographer, we’ll mostly shoot in the rooms you spend the most time – often the living area and bedrooms. These are the spaces that will hold the most meaning as your baby grows, and they tend to have the best light.A quick tidy-up goes a long way – think less spring clean and more “move the washing basket & phone chargers”.
Capturing heartfelt family portraits doesn’t need to be stressful. No matter how your baby is feeling on the day, we’ll get the natural, love-filled newborn images you’ve been dreaming of – promise. It’s what I do best. With all of this taken care of, it’s time for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy these precious moments. Let me know if you’d like your fur babies to be involved too!
