Looking Back on 2025: A Year that felt like it was going slow, yet it was me finding my feet within my business again.
2025 was a year of intentional growth for Kayla Frizzell Photography. Not just in bookings or visibility, but in clarity. It was the year my photography business evolved from documenting moments to preserving stories.

The kind of imagery that doesn’t just sit in a frame, but moves, sounds, and feels like home.
From refining my client experience to being more intentional with the families I work with, 2025 was about alignment; creatively, emotionally, and professionally.
How My Photography Shifted in 2025
In 2025, my work shifted in three key ways:
1. From Perfect Poses to Real Life
I moved further away from posed sessions and leaned fully into documentary-style family photography. The focus became less about looking at the camera and more about:
- kids being kids
- parents being present
- real connection over perfection
Backyards, loungerooms, beach walks, bush tracks these became the heart of my sessions. Because beauty already exists where life is being lived.

2. The Introduction of Family Films
One of the biggest evolutions in 2025 was the growing demand for family films.
Short, emotive films that capture:
- the sound of little voices
- the way your child says your name
- movement, laughter, chaos and calm
Family films became a natural extension of my photography ;a way to preserve not just how your family looks, but how it feels in this season. I even snuck in a couple of wedding film, whilst it was only the ceremony & portraits, it was a beautiful learning curve and something I can see myself setting as a goal in the future, but for now, the families have my heart.
3. Adventure-Led Family Sessions

I began leaning into adventure-led family photography — sessions that feel more like an experience than a photoshoot.

Whether it’s:
- exploring your local bushland
- barefoot afternoons in the backyard
- riding bikes down quiet streets
- camping, road trips, or slow weekends away
These sessions are about storytelling, not timelines. They’re relaxed, flexible, and deeply personal.

Why 2026 Is the Year to Book Your Family Session
If there’s one thing 2025 reinforced, it’s this:
Time does not slow down ….. but we can choose to preserve it.
Your Kids Will Never Be This Version Again
The gap between “one day” and “too late” is smaller than we think.
2026 is the year to:
- stop waiting for things to feel less busy
- stop waiting until the house is perfect
- stop waiting for kids to behave
Because the mess, the noise, the chaos — that’s the story.

Backyards Are Where the Magic Lives
You don’t need a destination to create meaningful imagery.
In 2026, I am intentionally celebrating:
- backyard family photography
- at-home family sessions
- slow, ordinary days
Because one day, your kids will remember:
- the creak of the clothesline
- the trampoline laughs
- the dirt under their feet
And you’ll wish you could step back into it.
Nostalgia Is Loud — and Worth Capturing
The nostalgia of childhood doesn’t whisper. It screams.

It’s loud in the:
- bike rides
- muddy feet
- snack breaks
- bedtime routines
- backyard adventures
These are the moments that become the stories your kids tell when they’re grown.
2026 is about intention.
My focus moving forward:
- Family films as a core offering
- Adventure-led family sessions
- Documentary-style family photography
- Story-driven sessions that feel relaxed and personal
I want families to walk away not just with images, but with:
- memories preserved
- emotion captured
- a record of what life actually felt like
